I write this blog after a frustrating couple of weeks which involved defeats to both Devizes and last week Portishead Town F.C.. Both results were frustrating to say the least but from different perspectives, the first game against Devizes we led until twenty minutes before time through a Kris Hastings strike and could have scored further during a solid first half display. They scored an equaliser with around twenty minutes left and then scored one of the best goals I’ve ever seen with 5 minutes to go which gave Liam Norris no chance, it was tough to take as we had worked real hard throughout the game and defended admirably, deserving to take something out of the match. This was not the same at the weekend against Portishead, where we defended horrifically throughout and came away with nothing, a goal from Connor Williams and a penalty from Dan Wise were not enough to take anything as we gave away three very very poor goals to fall to a defeat which was deserved over the ninety minutes. We are still learning as a squad and developing week on week as we learn each others games and develop an identity that we currently lack. We need to be braver on the ball, take risks in the opponents half but most importantly work harder as a defensive unit in order to win the ball back and defend at all costs. I have seen encouraging signs on this front during the past weeks, but not in any game for a full ninety minute period and this is something we must address if we are to start picking up points and moving up the table. This Saturday we face Oldland Abbotonians away without the inform Connor Williams which is a blow, and new signing Morgan Withers is still unavailable due to injury but the rest of the squad are all fit to go with Oakley Page declaring himself fit after a midweek knock. Oldlands have had an indifferent start the season as well this year, and we will have to be at our very best Saturday to take all three points and get us back on track, all support as usual hugely appreciated for this 3pm clash…………….
