Ralphy's Report for Reserves

So the new season is almost upon us and it can’t come soon enough. We have a longer preparation phase with starting in September so the lads and myself are raring to get started.
We enter my 4th season in charge and 3rd season in the Dorset Senior league. Both of our seasons in the senior league have ended just below mid table and both times I’ve felt we’ve under achieved considering the squad we have. Once again we aim to improve upon this and with certain areas of the team which have been strengthened I feel we can achieve this. Our first aim is to finish top half of the table but I’m seriously targeting a top 4 spot.
We’ve got a youthful side once again with new additions such as Sam Fisher, Jacob Tailby, Luke White and Luke Davis all adding great hunger and desire to the team. Andy Mitchell also ceasing his assistant managerial role with the first team to play and Scott Evans returning from a season away will also add the experience we need to balance the squad.
These additions plus others on top of the existing squad we had last year means I’m really hopeful we can do better this season particularly as we’ve had a relatively successful pre season campaign. With new lads coming in, we’ve been starting with at least 5 new players in the starting line up so it’s been good to see promise right from the start.
I’m delighted that club favourite Taffa Sanneh is joining me as my assistant for the season. His knowledge of the game, club, and players will be a huge help for me this season. Him aswell as Andy Mitchell as ‘coach’ make up the reserves back room staff and will be invaluable in improving us this season.
We get underway on 1st September with a tough start away at Chickerell on a sloping pitch which always proves tough for teams to get anything from. They’ve finished top 4 in the last 3 seasons even winning it on one occasion so it’s a tough test but we’ll head there buoyant and hopeful of getting off to a good start. The second week we start our Somerset Junior cup campaign away to Long Ashton Reserves so here’s to the new season and hopefully some success!!!
