Message from Manager

It was great to get back to winning ways this week with a solid 2-1 away win at Roman Glass St George. Our away form has been superb this season, having won every game since the opening day defeat at Radstock and this game was another where we thought from the off that we were capable of going and getting the three points. It was fantastic to have the availability of 99% of the squad back this week for the first time since August and we welcomed back Tom Morris who missed the Bishops Lydeard defeat and centre half Jack Burnett who has missed the previous 5 games due to a holiday in the US (mid-season!!!!). We started the game very strong and should have been one nil up inside twenty minutes when Marcus Cook put a chance wide. We did take the lead a few minutes later, a Dan Wise freekick was missed by their defender and Cook was on hand to improvise and use his thigh to loop the ball over the keeper. We controlled the game for the rest of the half and scored our second minutes before the break, a fantastic team move that involved some brilliant one touch passing was eventually turned home by Cook for his and the teams second. The 2nd half was much the same in terms of dominance and Tom Morris hit the post which would have sewn the game up nicely, as it was they scored with a wicked deflection off Dan Barber with around 5 minutes to go which made for a nervier finish than It should have been but we held on comfortably for the win.  This was another win away from home for us and we seem to be more comfortable at the moment going away and dominating possession and then shutting up shop than we have at Moor Lane and this is something we will need to work on as the season progresses as every successful side is built around solid home form. We travel to Devizes tomorrow in what will be another very tough test, they are currently sat above us in the league and we will leapfrog them with a win, in the same fixture last year we lost 1-3 and they had a man sent off and several booked and this has been a feature for them again this year with 3 red and 29 yellow cards in the 14 games so far. They are always an aggressive side and perhaps overcome us physically in the away fixture last season, although we did win the home leg 4-1, but this year I feel we are far more equipped to deal with their physicality, Kris Hastings coming into our defence has added some real height and power in our backline and we have others throughout the side now too who are capable of physically getting the better of their opposite man. The league is so tight at the minute, a win on Saturday could see us go 2nd in the table, a defeat as low as 11th, lets see what Saturday brings………
