What a frustrating week this has been. We started on Saturday playing a very strong Plymouth Parkway side in the FA Vase and went into the game missing Dan Hawkins through suspension and Jack Burnett, Andy Mitchell and Matt Peters through unavailability. We had a very good chance early on through Marcus Cook but they took the lead soon after and despite a much improved second half performance went on to win the game 0-3, the score line probably flattered them to some degree but they are a very strong outfit who will take some stopping in the vase this year! After the defeat Tuesday we went into the home game against what is fast becoming our bogey side Bishops Lydeard and this proved to be the case once again, as despite having around 80% possession and 10-12 good chances we lost the game 1-3. First half we were not good enough by any stretch and too many people had individually poor displays, we looked lethargic and sloppy in possession at times which is not a characteristic we have been tagged with so far this season. Kris Hastings scored our only goal through a Dan Wise free kick and those two were two of the only real positive displays in what was otherwise a below par performance against a team who were happy to sit deep and soak up the pressure and try and catch us on the break. After the game the atmosphere was very somber and the lads knew we had let ourselves down over the 90 minute period, despite having 80% possession we were not penetrative enough and need to learn to cope better against sides that come happy to let us have the ball and sit deep and allow us to try and break them down. After two defeats on the bounce (albeit one of them in the cup) we are pleased to have the opportunity to put things right against what will be a strong Roman Glass st George side who are comfortable on their 3G surface. For the first time in months we are expecting to have everyone available with the exception of player assistant manager Andy Mitchell who has had a baby girl called Bella, and all at the club would like to congratulate him and partner Izzy on their great news.
