Match Report: Corsham Town Vs Wincanton Town

Wincanton travelled to Corsham for an early 12pm kick off on Easter Monday hot on the heels of Fridays 3-3 draw with Chard.

This was a game of few chances despite the vast amount of possession the wasps had, Connor Williams having a header go narrowly over the bar being the only shot on goal for either side during the opening 25 minutes. Goalkeeper Jamie Stewart took a big blow on around the half hour mark catching the ball before being caught very late by the hosts number 9 which resulted in him being booked. 5 minutes later the wasps took the lead, a free kick 20 yards out was taken by captain Dan Wise who hit the ball with such venom that the keeper had absolutely no chance of stopping it as the ball sailed into the top right hand corner. Five minutes later Wise could have had his second, a cleverly worked corner with Danny Golden resulted in Wise hitting the post with the keeper beaten.

Second half the game started in the same manner with Wincanton seeing the majority of the ball however this time we did manage to create some decent opportunities with Williams, Morley and Morris all going close to scoring. Jack White was forced to come on in goal due to the knock taken to Jamie Stewart in the first half and was not really tested throughout. Substitute Iwan Walters should have wrapped the game up in the 80th minute but could not get the ball out of his feet to score a tap in at the back post. The hosts ended the game with 9 men due to having 2 players sent off in the final 15 minutes for dissent but the Wasps left with all 3 points and a clean sheet to take into our final game of the season at home to Bishops Lydeard on Saturday 29th April.
