Yesterday saw Wincanton return to Moor Lane following trips on the road to Warminster and Oldland Abbotonians as they hosted Cheddar.
The visitors had the better start as within 3 minutes they went a goal up as their striker broke through the Wincanton defence and slotted home to give them the 1-0 lead. The visitors continued to pile pressure early as they forced a save from Jamie Stewart to stop it going 2-0 within the first 10 minutes. Wincanton then had their first real threat on the Cheddar goal as a free kick into the box was met by a head of Connor Williams who put it just wide of the post. The pressure was once again put on the Wincanton defence as Cheddar had a goal bound shot blocked by Matt Peters half way through the first half. This was followed by a low shot that went just wide of the goal minutes later. Then came Wincanton's best effort yet as the ball popped up to Dan Wise who struck a volley which hit the post. Things began looking better just before the break as George Rigby had a low driving volley that went agonisingly wide of the goal. This meant that at the half time whistle Cheddar went in with a 1 goal lead.
The second half saw the introduction of Matt Morley as his curling shot went just over minutes after he came on. Cheddar then had an effort hit the post from 18 yards out. It was then the visitors who doubled their lead near the hour mark as their number 11 had a shot that was just out the reach of Jamie Stewart. This was quickly followed by another Cheddar attack that was comfortably saved by Jamie Stewart. Wincanton's best effort to get something back came from George Rigby as his effort was deflected over the bar.
This meant that it was the visitors who took all three points back up the county as Wincanton suffered back to back defeats. However, they move on to their next game this Tuesday night when they host Hengrove Athletic under the lights.
