Following Tuesday night's goalless draw, Ashton & Backwell were the next team to travel to Moor Lane to start their league campaign following their short Fa Cup adventure.
It was The Stags who looked more awake to start with as they took the lead after 8 minutes when their striker, Ryan Radford managed to get around the defender and just get the ball over Dan Cabell who tried to block the shot. Wincanton got a chance when the ball came out of the box after a free kick but it was hit over the bar. Then on 36 minutes The Stags doubled as they found the back of the net after a shot that rebounded off the post was not cleared. This was the second of the game for Ashton's Ryan Radford with the score now being 2-0 to The Stags. Just before half time Wincanton had their best chance as a dangerous ball from Kieran Davis was headed just wide of the post by Dan Wise. As the half time whistle went the score still remained at 2-0 with much work to be done by Wincanton.
The second half saw Ashton & Backwell come out well again as they started the half with the better chances including a shot blocked by Lewis Voizey and a shot just over the bar. Then on 68 minutes Wincanton found a break through as a long ball was taken down well by Connor Williams who slotted the ball in the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Just 3 minutes later they had it back level as Connor Williams scored a tight angled shot to make it 2-2. Then another 3 minutes after Matt Morley cut in from the left wing and found the top right corner to put Wincanton into the lead. The score was now 3-2 after 3 goals in the space of 6 minutes. Then they got another as an injury time penalty was awarded to Wincanton as Connor Williams was takenn down in the box. Up stepped Dan Wise who tucked his penalty away which meant Wincanton would secure their first league win this season. The final whistle went with the final score being 4-2 which put Wincanton up to 6th place and unbeaten in 3 games.
Next up we travel to Westbury this Tuesday (16th) for a 19:30 kick off. Come and support the boys as they look to continue a superb start to the season.
