The first home fixture of the season was one to be happy with as a strong Wellington side travelled to Moor Lane.
The away side, that came on top twice when the two sides met last season, had the better start. In the opening minutes a low ball into the box was struck just over the bar by the Wellington striker. Goalkeeper James Stewart was kept awake as he held onto a well struck shot from the 18 yard box and claiming two dangerous crosses that came into the box. Then Wincanton had a chance as Iwan Walters was on the end of a long diagonal ball but he was quickly closed down well by the Wellington keeper. He then held onto a low cross that was drilled in towards striker Connor Williams at the end of the half. The score at the end of the half was 0-0.
The second half saw Wellington come out strong again as they were pushing to find the game's opening goal. But good handling from James Stewart once again kept the game at 0-0. A dangerous goal bound free kick from Wellington was headed away well by defender Dan Barber as Wellington were pushing for a possible winner. But it was more of a wake up call for Wincanton as they began to create efforts of their own. A long range effort from winger Matt Morley from 30 yards out went over the bar. A low driven free kick from Dan Wise was also deflected over the bar as Wincanton began to look favourites to snatch a winner. A strong header from substitute George Rigby came agonisingly close from the resulting corner. Then in the depths of injury time a dangerous free kick from Dan Wise caused panic in the Wellington box but it was just headed over. It was to be the last play of the game as the referee blew his full time whistle. The full time score being Wincanton Town 0-0 Wellington.
