A good crowd of around 90 people saw a very good all round performance from Wincanton which resulted in a well deserved victory.

The opening minutes saw Gillingham have a couple of good chances but it was Wincanton who took the lead early on. A long ball down the right wing was taken down well by Matt Morley who darted into the box and slotted it neatly in the bottom left corner to make it 1-0. Then the pressure was piled onto Wincanton for the next 15 minutes as Gillingham tried to bring the game level. A good save from goalkeeper Jamie Stewart from a close range effort as well as a good save from a free kick kept Wincanton in the lead. Then Wincanton had a few efforts just before the break but neither team found the net which meant Wincanton went in at half time with the lead.

The second half saw more attacking from Wincanton as they hit the side netting from a close range shot and the cross bar from a header. Gillingham had a few good chances but no additional goals were scored although the ball did end up in the Wincanton goal but saved by the offside flag. The game finished 1-0 with a very positive first victory and a well deserved one.

The next game is away to Yeovil Town under 18's on Tuesday night.
